Story

Calum Waddell my dog Suzie and I intend to walk 60miles in 24hrs through the Cairngorms unsupported (this means we will carry all required equipment, water, food, bones etc). The walk will take place over a 24hr period during the 21/22nd or 28/29th July. We will start and finish from the Linn of Quich car park taking us through the heart of the Cairngorms

THE WALK

Well we eventually did the walk on weekend of the 20/21st July. I am sorry to say we did not make the 60 miles, this was due to Susie….well not really it was down to the ground conditions mostly (very wet and boggy). We did achieve 81km (50mils) in 20hrs so not a bad effort…I think.

We started at the Linn of Quiche at 20:45 on the Friday night, walking most of part one of the walk in darkness. The conditions underfoot were difficult to say the least making walking hard going. By the time, we arrived at the start of part two we were already 1hr 40min behind our schedule. We did make a dam good try at gaining some time back but as we arrived at the beginning of part 4, it was clear we would not complete the 60mils in 24hrs. Based on this and the fact that we were all very very tired a decision was then made to cut across to the Linn of Dee and then to Linn of Quiche car park and our car.

I feel we did a fantastic job considering the pain we were in for the last 8hrs. Calum and I never fell out, keeping up a good sense of humour all the way but this was probably due to the number of high-energy gels we had consumed.

Susie also did such a good job she is a true mountain dog, the poor lass was very tired at the end and she will probably never walk with me again.

Calum, Susie and I would just like to say a big “THANK YOU” to everyone; your donations are very much appreciated and will go to help many disabled people throughout Scotland.

We will only post photos from the beginning of the walk as the rest look like the living dead..except Susie who looks great.
