**The Plane Leaves on the 21st Sept**
Hi, I'm Nikki and I am the founder of the Africa Childrens Development Trust and its project Chrysalis Uganda. have been planning for some time to set up a small shop at my school in the slums of Kampala. The school struggles to survive and we have supported them for the last 9 years but we really need to make the school sustainable for the long term. The Chrysalis Uganda Project itself helps the mums of the pupils to start businesses to support the children and their families but I really need to start a something within the school to help them generate funds themselves so that they don't need continual support from the outside for years to come. That is not sustainable and is not the solutions. We need this school to be able to support itself, but in order to do that we just need to help build the foundation so that they can continue to grow by themselves.
We have a few other things in the pipeline but they will take a bit longer to organise due to the recent loss of the teacher who I was working with on making this happen, but what we can do quickly is start a small shop and fill it with initial stock for the school to sell, to get the ball rolling!
The oldest class children (P7) are approx 13 years old and they will also be involved in running this shop and learning about running a business. Many of these children will be unable to continue to secondary school so they can use these vocational skills to help them start their own businesses in the future. The whole 'give a man a fish.....' concept is exactly the purpose of this shop for the children, whilst profits made from the shop will go towards running the school, food and books etc...
I will be sourcing some items locally to support the local economy and using local workers to build. Many of the local wholesalers get items from China which are not of the best quality and I want these guys to have some good stock to get them started! Thank you xx
The £200 raised through this appeal will contribute to the costs of getting these items out to Uganda! The ACDT will then fund the difference! Everyone coming together for the greater good!
