Ross Pensioners
Three Peaks Challenge
And then there was 1+1. Undoubtedly a sense
of achievement comes in different ways, although our weekend turned out not
quite as planned. First of all the drivers deserve thanks for putting up with
gentle remarks of “could you go a little faster.” On Friday they got to Spean
Bridge after 480 miles and the to Snowdon via Scarfell Pike another 470
miles in 24 hours.
First up was Ben Nevis and, although Colin
awoke with a bug and legs like jelly,, the team arrived out of the snow, rain,
mist and wind in 5.5 hours at 22:30.
Then off to Scarfell Pike, setting off up
the mountain at 4:30 am. Unfortunately Colin’s bug got the better of him and he
returned to the base after getting half way. Then there were two. After several
hours the team were on tenderhook’s waiting for Peter and Daphne. When they at
last arrived out of the mist Daphne could hardly walk with a knee that would
not bend and twice normal size but she had made it up and down. And then there
was one (or so we thought).
Off to Snowdon and a change of plan,
Pauline joined Peter on the climb for the walking team.
Setting off at 16:00 Pauline made Peter go
at his own pace.
Peter was so quick he completed the climb
up and down in 3:38 and arrived back before the welcome team arrived to greet
him, having completed the Ross Pensioners Challenge in 27 hours. Pauline who
transferred from driver to walker arrived back down later in her record time of
5 hours.
We achieved putting at least two Ross
Pensioners on the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales over the
weekend.
Our thanks go to all those who have
supported us in this team effort either by sponsorship or wishes of goodwill.
