Story
Transplant Links Community is a charity that few people here know about. But its work saves lives, and raising awareness is vital.
In most countries on the African continent, kidney failure accounts for roughly 10% of hospital admissions. Without access to a safe organ transplant, prospects are bleak: for many of these patients, the diagnosis 'kidney failure' means the death sentence.
But it doesn't have to be this way. Transplant Links Community gives friends and family members of patients a chance to donate their kidney, by means of a safe and professional procedure. By sharing knowledge and experience, Transplant Links saves lives everyday, and combats the hidden emergency' of kidney failure in developing countries.
To support this organisation, the FXU Expedition Society, based in Falmouth (Cornwall, UK) has taken on the infamous 'Three Peaks Challenge'. The task sounds deceptively simple: we will be climbing the three highest mountains in the UK (Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Peak) in 24 hours. By going the extra mile those suffering from kidney failure can't, we want to raise awareness of this issue and support this charity in any way we can.
But kidney transplants are not free, and I'm asking for your help. Any gift counts, and it takes a little to do a lot of good: all money will go directly to Transplant Links. So please sponsor me or any other member of the FXU ExSoc Three Peaks team, and help Transplant Links provide access to live-saving medical care overseas.
Thank you for your help,
Tomas van den Heuvel
