Story
On Thursday 11th July in the morning my Horse Maggie who is my princess was well and fit and was even lunged. Throughout the afternoon she became very ill and sleepy so I called the Vet. Unfortunately she was diagnosed with Grass Sickness which is a mystery to Vets. They don't know how they catch it or how to cure it. She was taken to the Vets on the Thursday evening and was monitered over night. The following morning she still hadnt passed anything or eaten or drunk any water. The Vet siad he would operate incase it was an absesse, in the hope it wasnt grass sickness. On operating the vet found het bowel was displaced so this could have been the reason for her feeling so unwel and not been able to pass anything. Her bowel was put back into place and she looked like she was recovering and seemed quite perky. That night we were just hoping and praying that she would have passed something during the night but unfortunantely she didnt.
The Vet rang me on the Saturday morning to say i could come and see her as we needed to discuss putting her to sleep. I set off straight away....its only a 20 minute drive from my house. Then my phone rang. It was the Vet to say that Maggie had just dropped to the floor and was having a massive seizure and they would try and control it. Then 5 minutes later my phone rang again to say she wasnt responding to any of the drugs so they had to put her to sleep to stop her banging her head on the floor.
I got there just a few minutes after she had passed away and didnt feel like i got to say goodbye. I layed with her for a while and could feel her last breaths coming out of her nostrils. I really wouldn't wish this on anyone so please please donate!
This disease starts incredibly quick and on Saturday 13th July at 09:50am just 38 hours from her being fit and well my princess passed away. Please could everyone come to the Fund Raising Family Fun Day I am holding on Sunday 18th August at Wilsden Equestrian Centre please click this link for more details http://www.facebook.com/GrassSicknessFundRaiser you can also donate online or via text.
