PLANET MERCY (U.K)
RAMADHAN 2016 APPEAL (20k Target)
‘Food
Parcels, Warm Meals & Supporting Local Food Banks to Better the
Lives of the Poor, Needy, Refugees and Destitute of our Communities”
Planet
Mercy U.K with your kind support has been running a campaign since 2009
to provide warm meals and food parcels to the poor, needy and destitute
of the U.K, working in collaboration with several partner
organisations.
Our involvement in this area originally started
off as an awareness campaign locally and gradually increased to a
fully-fledged project ran and delivered by Planet Mercy volunteers,
leading to many openings and new projects such as Food Banks, Food
Kitchens, Food Parcel distribution nationally.
Planet Mercy is
currently providing warm meals on a fortnightly basis in Oldham and six
weekly basis in Bradford to over 200 destitute, homeless, refugees and
asylum seekers and we aim to extend our support in Bradford to more
regular meals throughout the year.
In the blessed month of
Ramadan, where the rewards are multiplied and one of the dimensions of
Fasting is to feel the pain of the poor through hunger, Planet Mercy
provides what the poor perceive as "luxury Food Parcels" on a weekly
basis to over 50 destitute. Each parcel costs £10 and includes fresh
& dry fruit, vegetables, dates, olive oil, rice, coffee, rice,
flour, cakes and biscuits. Once again, this year we will be providing
Pre-Ramadan parcels to several families under our Reach Project where we
assist individual cases locally.
Through our Food Bank appeals
in Oldham, Rochdale, High Wycombe, Birmingham, Bradford, Burton &
Derby, Planet Mercy throughout the year, gives a helping hand to average
families who are struggling to make ends meet due to rising utility
bills and living expenses. This is a real issue that has been
highlighted in the Media for sometime now and we work in collaboration
with the Trussells Trust in the respective cities and towns .
Since
the Refugee crisis entered our shores, Planet Mercy has been at the
forefront of helping Refugees that came from several war torn countries.
Our Refugee Support Scheme assists families going through hardships in
several ways, based on the individual families needs. In the last 6
months, we have supported approximately 20 Refugee families with such
needs and provided household equipment, washing machines, shoes, school
uniforms, school bus passes, nappies, food supplies , baby milk etc all
at our doorstep. In addition , we run monthly Food Kitchens for Refugees
and occasionally organise FunDays providing them a platform to meet and
socialise with others and giving their children a platform to enjoy
themselves and temporarily forget about their problems. This is an area
that is inreasing and donations are deseparately needed.
All this
can only be possible with your help and support, whether financially,
in raising awareness of this much needed appeal or in volunteering at
the kitchens or help in distributing the parcels.
This Ramadan
Planet Mercy aims to raise £20k in order to financially secure all the
current projects for another 12 Months as well as start new initiatives
that will change the lives of many within our immediate communities.
This is a great opportunity for you to multiply your rewards this
Ramadhan and make a real difference and bring a smile on the face of
disadvantaged people, sponsor a Food Parcel for £10, sponsor a Food
Kitchen for £200 or make any general donation towards the continuation
of the projects.
