Story
Hello!
This year I'm taking part in the Major Series - a 10k obstacle course run through hills, mud and water. Not a huge distance perhaps but about 3 times further than I've ever run before and with the addition of mud, obstacles and 'helpful troops' I'm pretty terrified.
As you will probably know, due to complications following heart surgery my little brother, Ben, sadly passed away in February, shortly after his 24th birthday.
To make the most of this Major Series run, I really want to help raise as much as I possibly can for a charity that has meant a great deal to Ben and the rest of my family.
Throughout his life, Heartbeat has been an incredible support in many different ways. They are currently raising money to create a special unit geared to the needs of young patients like Ben with congenital heart conditions. Whereas now at around the age of 16 they move from a children’s ward to a general adult cardiac ward, in the future they will have a place they can call their own, with other young people who know what it’s like to live with a heart condition and stay in hospital for long periods away from their normal lives. Patients will have more freedom and crucially more independence. A small kitchen; exercise equipment; computers; a social room and a quiet room are all part of the plan to help to make life as normal as possible for these young people in hospital.
Please, please donate anything you can spare, and as an added incentive if I reach over £500 I will add an element of fancy dress to my running gear on the day and share before and after photos for everyone to have a good laugh at. Can't say fairer than that surely?!
