This is my very first half marathon. Ever. The longest I have ever run so far is 16km, and that day I ended up throwing up out of exhaustion (true story). But I like running and I like challenges, and with the proper training I think I can do this.
Why am I putting myself through such an ordeal, I hear you say? Well, because I can. The truth is I can do this sort of thing because I have a good job that allows me to train when I need to, and a network of contacts that encourage me to do it (and believe, I'll need plenty of encouragement for this). And the reason why I have these things? Because I was able to go to university and study a degree that would open as many doors as I needed.
Needless to say, success only comes when we make the most out of the opportunities that present to us, but for that to happen the opportunities actually need to be there. TeachFirst makes sure that everyone has such opportunities, providing support to those who need it the most, so everyone has a shot at earning a live where one decide to suffer excruciatingly painful training to run further than ever before just for the fun of it (ah, the irony).
