Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
After a New Year's Eve visit with my toddler to the Royal Free A&E, I discovered that they do not have an Accuvein vein illuminator which assists in locating veins for blood work and to insert cannulas. This is particularly helpful with paediatrics to help the staff find the best vein on the first try and I have seen a similar gadget in use in Great Ormond Street. My toddler is thankfully fine now and it seems he has particularly tricky veins. When I was there, I asked the doctors on call and they said the Trust simply does not have the funds to purchase one and it would be great if they could have one as it really could make a difference.
Watching my son get prodded again prompted me to email the manufacturer from the A&E cubicle. After further conversations with the Royal Free Charity, consultants at the Royal Free and Q Medical Technologies I have decided to fundraise so that an Accuvein illuminator machine can be purchased to help future patients. The minimum needed to purchase one of these is £3,000.
When I originally started fundraising, I had hoped that together we could raise sufficient funds to purchase two machines so that one is available in the Royal Free Hospital paediatric A&E and another one on the paediatric ward. After a few weeks and with the generous donations received to date we thankfully achieved that goal and further sufficient funds to cover two hands free trolleys which the Trust have requested. The Trust and I are grateful for all the support to date and the purchase of the first 2 Accuveins is in hand.
I have been asked by the Royal Free Charity, friends and on social media to fundraise for an Accuvein for the Paediatric A&E Department at Barnet (which also falls under the remit of the Royal Free Charity) and another one for the Royal Free Clinic 1 (Paediatric Outpatients Department).
I am now continuing to fundraise for 2 further Accuveins (and hands free trolleys) for Barnet Paediatric A&E and Clinic 1, the Royal Free outpatients paediatric department.
The Accuvein saves precious time and reduce distress in emergencies and has also been shown to reduce infection rates due to accuracy.
I hope you will be supportive and assist me in trying to help even more of our local children.
