Story

On Friday 8th April I fly to Morocco, with the race starting on Sunday 10th.  The following six days will see me attempt to travel a total of around 250km, trying to stay ahead of the camels which signal your withdrawal if they overtake you.  All food and equipment is carried with water and shelter being provided by the organisers.  I am especially lucky in that this year's route will be the longest ever.  Hurrah.

I am raising money for Occtopus which I hope none of us ever need, but who do great work.  If you would like to sponsor me then £10 will get you a whole kilometer of sponsorship - or £16 for a mile in old money.  I reckon I can always make another 100 metres for a quid.

Please leave a message and you will be able to follow my progress by going to http://www.marathondessables.com/en/ after the start.  My race number is 1006 which is probably the place I will come.  If it looks like the GPS tracker isn't working it might just be my pace.........

Last year Ranulph Fiennes came 1192 out of 1237 finishers having spent just shy of 68 hours keeping ahead of the camels. An average speed of 3.5km per hour.  On the other hand James Cracknell came 12th when he did it, but he's not right.  I am hoping for mid table mediocrity so you can assume about 45 to 50 hours of effort.  Still, I should get a cracking tan.......

Anyway, please donate and leave or send me a message, even if it is just one of ridicule and I'll happily let you buy me a beer when I get back.
