Story
Hi Everyone!
I am Adrian Cheang, a 4th year Medical Student at King's College London Medical School. This Summer I'll be heading with two fellow King's Students to Nepal for a 4 week medical elective period in a small region in the North West called Kalikot. Our elective placement will be directed by Doctors for Nepal - a UK based charity.
Here is a bit about the Charity below.
The Aims of DoctorsForNepal:
DoctorsforNepal is helping develop the foundations of a quality health system in Nepal by providing the finances to train local people as medical doctors who will in return be contracted to work in these difficult areas for an agreed number of years after graduation.
In this way, the project will help the local communities by creating a legacy of doctors that receive the training opportunities they could never have afforded otherwise and delivering their services to these communities to provide a brighter future for so many vulnerable patients.
Our Medical Elective:
We plan to spend a week in Kathmandu, followed by 3 weeks in Kalikot gaining experience working at the local hospital. During this time we will learn first-hand how the lack of infrastructure and resources, manpower and differing culture affects the provision of healthcare in this region. Much of the experience will be hands-on as we'll be assisting the staff wherever we can and also get involved in the learning and training that run there as much as possible.
Our aim is to not just help continue the financial support for local medical students, but also to work with the healthcarers in the hospital with the skills we have acquired in our training so far.
Donations:
With your donation, you can help contribute to the investment in Nepal's future doctors, and they in turn will bring a guarenteed return by helping countless others through their role in the community for many years to come.
