Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On the 8th of November 2014, Ailis Watt and her mother Brigid Whoriskey will be travelling to Northern India, near Dharmsala, to spend 2 weeks in the slums of the Kangra Valley trying to help the people there as best as we can.

The charity for which we are fundraising, Tong-Len, aims to help as many people escape poverty as they can, largely through the process of education. So far, Tong-Len has managed to build a hostel which has taken 100 children out of the slums and provided them with a safe place and the tools through which they can escape poverty.

With the money we hope to raise, we intend to further help improve the lives of these impoverished children by funding the building a greenhouse, where children can learn about how to grow and provide their own food and how to be self sufficient.

There are a number of further projects that we would love to be able to support if enough money can be raised. These are aimed at giving much needed skills to young people living in the slums to help them find an alternative to scavenging in dumps and begging in the streets, transforming the lives of people otherwise destined to suffer, to a life with hope.

100% of the money we raise will go directly towards these projects, so any donations that would help us to meet our target would be enormously appreciated.

Thank you!
