Story
After a gap of 22 years and now that he's reached the biblical age of three score years and ten, Alan Spier is diving headfirst into a new swimming challenge. With his 1992 Lake Coniston swim a distant memory, he aiming big: the Great North swim in Windermere in June, followed by a swim in 14 Lakes over three days in September.
This time his chosen charity is in memory of Judith's grandson George Thomas Gordon who was born at 26 weeks plus four days on June 29th 2009 and sadly passed away just 12 hours later on June 30th 2009.
Alan's aim is to raise funds for the Intensive Care Baby Unit at Sheffield Jessops Maternity hospital that looked after George and continues to dedicate itself to the intensive care of sick and premature babies.
The unit has a long and varied wishlist of what it would like to purchase, including
- Positioning aids
- Baby examination trolley
- ‘Premature’ stethoscopes
- Soothers
- Baby clothes and bibs
- Breast feeding pillows
- Disposable cameras
- Bereavement packs
- Toys for the waiting area
- Bedding for the parents rooms
