Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have decided to embark on an adventure of a lifetime - with the British Horse Society, raising money for horse welfare in the UK.
Mongolia evokes visions of the untamed; a warrior nation with Genghis Khan ruling supreme: images of the Gobi Desert and traditional nomads with mixed herds of sheep, camels and horse. I've heard told, that when we arrive in Ulan Bator we will feel that we have reached the illusive "end of the road" and entered a time-warp, visiting another, earlier, century. It remains one of the last great adventure destinations.
So, I've decided to ride a Mongolian horse (1 of 3,000,000 that roam the Steppe), a breed unchanged since the days of Genghis Khan, across the Steppe - an area of grassland which remains as it has been for thousands of years, unlike its counterparts across China and Russia - and where temperatures can range between -35 and +35 degrees!
We will be riding for around 5-6 hours/day and covering about 300km. I have been asked to pack padded cycling shorts, so I think I know where the majority of my aches and pains will be coming from!
Having ridden for many years, taught horse riding, taught Riding for the Disabled and loved and enjoyed horses all my life, I'd like to ensure that horses and ponies, are well cared for and taken out of life threatening, neglect situations, that their owners are well educated on welfare and the critical 200 welfare volunteers (the most of any animal charity) can continue to do their important work.
I am NOT asking you to fund this adventure! I have paid the registration fees, all of the travel costs and donated a further £1000 to ensure that any money raised on this page, goes directly to the BHS Welfare Charity.
Thank you for anything you are able to donate. xx
