I've lived in London since 2004 having originally cycled down from Edinburgh earlier that year. It didn't seem exactly a welcoming place to cycle but I took to cycling to work by early 2005 having got bored of the tube and the bus. In 2007 I got run over on the way to work through Chiswick, and in 2011 I had the privilege of being rear-ended by a moped on the Hammersmith Broadway. Neither of these collisions would have happened if London had proper space for cycling. And if we did have a proper cycle network, it would be plausible for almost anyone to use it. You should not need to feel brave to cycle in London.
Since 2012 I've supported London Cycling Campaign as a strong voice for a city that anyone can cycle in, in safety and comfort. If you can support me in riding 100 miles (which seemed easy enough until I remembered I have to do it in around 6-7 hours) then hopefully LCC can continue their work in making it easier to do the more mundane things like cycling to school, getting the shopping and nipping to the cinema.
