In memory of Robin Garton

Story

In September last year, my uncle Robin Garton went missing whilst on a sensible hike in Glencoe.  After months of desperate uncertainty, his body was found in early June this year.  During all this time, the Glencoe mountain rescue team have spent thousands of man hours using helicopters, sniffer dogs etc. but above all people on foot relentlessly searching for him. They have also provided a lot of support to my aunt and her family.  All of this was unpaid volunteer work.

On Wednesday 28 September, almost a year to the day after Robin went missing, joined for part of the way by close family members, I will be undertaking an arduous (but accompanied!) memorial hike in his memory to raise funds for the Glencoe Rescue team.  This will be at Kinlochewe (where Robin was due to be last year after Glencoe) for a near 15 mile leg stretch across country including two tough munros beloved by Robin.

Robin was a liveryman of the Grocers' Company in London, [for further details of their great charitable work see:   http://grocershall.co.uk/the-charity/   ].  I am also a liveryman of the Grocers' and hope to be able to take advantage of their matched charity funding scheme, which, subject to a maximum, could match as much as £5,000 dependent on grant committee support.  Therefore, every donation you kindly give will be matched, possibly as much as 'pound for pound', by the Grocers' Company.

To the extent that I exceed the fundraising total, I would like to donate to the Glacier Trust, which my uncle founded and which helps mountain communities in Nepal adapt to climate change through education and practical support.  For further details see http://theglaciertrust.org/

Robin was a wonderful man who spent a lot of time fund raising for other people, so I am hoping to return this generosity in his memory.
