Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Three weeks ago Alfie decide to make an early arrival. Born only 1lb 6oz he had an up hill journey but he attacked it with gusto. We're the proudest parents watching his arms wriggle and legs wave as he explores his environment. I was so chuffed when he opened his eye on my birthday.
Three days ago Alfie passed away - his little heart just couldn't keep up after all his lung problems. He was a fighter to the end and now we have to be just as strong as we say goodbye.
The team at Southmead NICU have been excellent, truly exceptional and James and I can't thank them enough. That's why we have decided to set up this memorial page. As much as it is nice to receive cards from family and friends at this time we would rather you put the 50p for a stamp and £1.50 for a card onto this page, to help other babies have the best chance of a successful life.
Shine Together will ensure that all funds raised on this page will go direct to the NICU at Southmead hospital. Alfie received wonderful care and round the clock attention from this superb team. From the consultants who never seemed to sleep, the registrars who had to battle with his wriggling limbs to take many gas tests, the loving nurses who never stopped despite his constant need for attention and all the rest of the team, they never gave up. NICU have so many little lives to care for and everyone is given the best of care, we couldn't have found a better place for Alfie. We are especially grateful that they had basic (think noisy boarding house) double rooms that James and I could camp in for the 11 nights when Alfie was just too poorly for us to be far away. We wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else.
Alfie is our little champion and we're going to miss him dearly. x
