Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

It's almost 3 years ago since we found out that my son Owen at the age of 6 has Dyslexia, we have very close friends who also have a son with dyslexia and it's not until you start talking about it that you realise how it affects so many people.

It was only then, that we found out that the support children with dyslexia get is reliant on voluntary contributions and hard work from parents and organisations such as BDA and our local Shine workshop which my son & his friends attends.

Dyslexia has the missconception of just being about the ability to spell correctly, however it is so much more than that. It severly effects childrens short term memory, their confidence, their frustration in being unable to explain or comprehend certain things, their anxiety and a feeling of isolation which can sometimes lead to bullying and self harm.

With your help I'd like to raise money for BDA so that they can help these kids on a local level and maintain their helpline so that kids going through a tough time have someone at the end of the phone to talk to.

Please imagine you are reading this and then all of sudden the letters came off the page and landed randomly scattered across it, except you were back in school amongst your friends and this was a test......please help me soften that anxiety.

Thank you

Ali
