Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I've been given the amazing opportunity to run in the Virgin London marathon 2017 and for those of you who know me this is a huge huge huge challenge! Being 51, overweight  and unfit I could have considered something easier however I feel that to raise serious money I need to seriously challenge myself.

I have decided to attempt this challenge in loving memory of my two godfathers Alan Chambers and Brian Williams and my father in law Bob Atkin who have sadly passed from prostate cancer. I cannot convey here how much I miss them all and how much joy they brought in to my life. They leave behind very dear friends and family and I want to raise as much money as I can to prevent others having to suffer as they have.

The picture on my page is of myself (centre) with Alison and Matthew Chambers at my godfather Alan's funeral. I grew up with these wonderful people and treasure the happy times we've shared and as you can see we were able to celebrate Alan's life at his funeral. Alan leaves behind his children Alison and Matthew and their children and my wonderful capable and caring godmother Maureen. Alan was my Dads best friend at university and is sadly missed.

Brian was a fire engine driver in Wales . He and his wife were neighbours of my parents in Swansea and have been lifelong friends , fantastic godparents and the kindest and sweetest people.Brian was an amazing character and leaves behind my wonderful godmother Majorie and their son Ian and family.

Bob Atkin is my ex husbands father and died 6 weeks before our wedding over 20 years ago. He was a legend and a very gentle man, we had planned to have a dance at my wedding but unfortunately he was taken too quickly. He leaves behind his children, Joan, Roy and Les who miss him every day and grandchildren Samantha,Stephen and Sydnie who all miss not having known him.

Male cancer awareness are a charity that does exactly what it says on the tin. They raise awareness of the signs of cancer and travel the country spreading the word giving men the confidence to be brave and speak out. Men are notoriously poor at checking themselves and reading the signs so please after you have read this go to the charity website and speak to your loved one or challenge yourself, it might just save a life.

I do hope you will dig deep, as I will , to raise money for this wonderful charity.

Thank you so much for reading and please say a prayer for those left grieving and help me raise awareness for male cancer.

Lots of love and hugs
