Story
On 21st February 2014 our lives were turned upside down and changed forever when my Dad was so suddenly taken from us, in very tragic circumstances. 2014 was a huge challenge for all the family and finally just the week before Christmas those responsible for Dads death were held to count.
As a family we decided that while life must go on for the rest of us, it would be good for something positive to come out of such a devastating situation... and so The Geoff Carr Memorial Event was born with an overall target of raising £7000.00.
The Geoff Carr Memorial Event is to be held on Saturday 22nd August 2015 and will begin at Aintree Race course where the tragic events began, and will end at The Charnley Arms public house in Standish. Entrants to the event will either walk or cycle 23 miles, or those brave enough or stupid enough to do the Iron Man will cycle 20 miles, kayak 3 miles, and then run 3 miles. I myself will be doing the 23 mile cycle in memory of Dad.
The Charnley Arms has already supported with bottle tombola's and a family fun day on Easter Sunday. The Silver Tally are holding a Family Fun Day on 23rd May 2015 in support of the bigger event, and The Seven Woods public house in Westbrook, Warrington are hosting a number of events throughout the year in support of us and our efforts to raise money for Three wishes.
Money donated to Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Three Wishes appeal can go to a number of worthy causes within the Trust, but as Dad ultimately died of a heart attack following his injuries, we have chosen for the money we raise to go to Heartbeat 2 appeal in support of Coronary Care at Wigan Hospital.
Those that know me will know I am not fit or active and weigh far more than I should (but 2 stone 5.5 less than 16 weeks ago)! For me to cycle 23 miles will certainly be a challenge, but one I cant wait to embrace for this worthy cause and in memory of the most amazing man.
Please support me, and my family by either sponsoring me to cycle the 23 miles, simply donating through this page; or by offering your support on the day as a volunteer. We are also still looking for people to enter the event with a total of 120 cycling places, 60 walking places, and 20 iron man places for the event.
In support of the events if anyone has any unused, unwanted gifts or bottles, or knows of any business that may donate raffle prizes then all support would be gratefully received.
Those who wish to get involved or volunteer, or can help in any way, please text me on 07979 737778.
