Story
In June 2012, like any other family , Phil, Ali, Joseph and Grace went on holiday to Greece. Littlte did they know that their lives would change so dramatically in a few days. Phil had suffered for a number of years with his illness and was determined to lead a life as normal as he could, he never moaned and accepted that dialysis was part of his treatment and it became second nature to him. Family was most important to him and as long as Ali and the kids were happy he was happy.
Following Phil's tragic death, the family have received support from Nightingale House Hospice Bereavement service. Ali had no idea that this service was available and the support and counselling have helped her, Joe and Grace through some very dark times. There is no end date to the support and a counsellor is always available on the end of the phone to help with any issues the family are struggling with. Grief is a very strange emotion, even more so for children and Joe and Grace have had tremendous relief from the sessions. There is no rule book on grief and we all deal with it differently, the sessions have enabled them to help understand their emotions.
This is now our time to give a little back, Nightingale House Hospice is our local Hospice and offers high quality palliative care services, including a fantastic breavement service free of charge to patients within its catchment areas. In 2013, the Hospice will receive £600,000 from statutory souces, which will fund the Hospice for only 85 days.
Fourteen people, including Joe will be undertaking an 88 mile bike ride in Phil's memory from Bwlchgwyn to Abersoch - one of Phil's favourite places. We will appreciate every donation no matter how small (or large!) as every penny makes a difference.
