Story
The Kumi Disatrict is situated in eastern Uganda. The town lacks running water and has one of the highest HIV prevalence rates in the country. I have the opportunity from my university to go and help with the sports and HIV/ AIDS awareness programme. This programme will enable impoverished young children through games and play, provide health promotion and education on HIV and public health issues and to make good choices concerning education.
I feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to go and help and I intend on making the most of it and helping in as many ways as I can. It am coming to the the end of the biggest challenge I have ever faced- becoming a paediatric nurse and I want to share my new skills and knowledge and put them to good use in helping the children and families in Kumi Uganda. I will be able to work with the medical teams to help educate people on HIV and encourage testing, enocurage women to have smear tests and provide health promotion. I am excited to put my new skills into practice visiting the hospital and schools, helping alot of children and families that are in desperate need.
I am now going to take on my next challenge to raise money for these children and families, I'm going to complete the National Three Peaks Challenge in 24 hours! With the amazing support from my family and friends who are going to take on the challenge with me. We are going to climb the highest mountain in England, Scotland and Wales, it is 14 hours walking and 10 hours driving. I can't say I'm really fit or even do lots of walking but I am determined to complete this challenge for this cause. So many face challenges every day in Uganda which makes me more determined to complete this challenge for them.
If you can help me, help others I really appreciate it, so please if you can donate anything it will be great, every little helps!
Thanks
