Have you ever felt helpless when watching the news? Wondering why so many disasters occur, why there is war going on, why there are those that are less fortunate than us? If so, you can understand why Challenge 4 Life is a really important challenge for me to overcome. Since I can't save the world; I can at least try and do something about it :) 

Some call this, a moment of inspiration, a calling - a need to do something to help this world. Feeling overwhelmed with the worlds problems - Challenge 4 Life is an opportunity to challenge myself, physically, mentally and emotionally.

Raising funds for Focus Humanitarian Assistance will enable us to help those in need and reduce their dependence on humanitarian aid and become self-sufficient individuals. Knowing that all the funds collected will be given to FOCUS HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE reassures us that the money collected will be used efficiently.  

What will I be doing ? Just about everything !!! The Challenge 4 Life is taking place in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia :) The 'Summit to Sea Challenge' will include a hike up Mount Kinabalu, some intense mountain biking and rafting. What is FOCUS you ask ? Focus Humanitarian Assistance (FOCUS) is an international group of agencies established in Europe, North America, South and Central Asia to complement the provision of emergency relief, principally in the developing world. It helps people in need reduce their dependence on humanitarian aid and facilitates their transition to sustainable self-reliant, long-term development. Focus Humanitarian Assistance is an affiliate of the Aga Khan Development Network - AKDN.

FOCUS’ ethical framework is based on that of its affiliate organisation, the AKDN. FOCUS’ efforts in humanitarian assistance represent an application of the social conscience of Islam and, in particular, the ethical values of compassion, care and concern for the poor and weak and the protection of the vulnerable in society.
