Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As some of you will know, it will be 20 years in October since my father died of multi-infarct dementia (now called vascular dementia). His dementia was early onset and he probably had it from his 40s onwards.
My father was the fittest man I know. He loved sports. When he was young, he played football, cricket and snooker. Towards the end of his life, he took up golf, walked a lot and cycled everywhere. He didn't smoke and, after the excesses of youth, didn't particularly drink. I know he would encourage me to run the marathon and would cheer me all the way. Indeed, he did some marathon sporting feats himself. So I'm sure that when I run through the finish line, he will be one of my first thoughts.
As some of you also know, I studied for my PhD at Cardiff University. I received so much support from the University, I thought that it's time for me to give something back to them. After doing some research with the Nuffield Council of Bioethics on neurotechnologies and learning more about the processes of the brain, dementia research at Cardiff University seemed a worthy cause for me to raise money. Two causes in one! I hope you agree and will help me in that endeavour.
