Mandy and I have been steadfast friends for more than half my life - sharing good, bad and some downright dangerous times throughout. She’s also the reason I made a documentary in 2001/2 called The Timebomb Virus. Mandy was working in California when she was diagnosed with Hepatitis C and I just could not believe that I had heard
nothing about this disease that was apparently so widespread and dangerous.

Four years later Mandy beat her Hep C through, what was at the time, a brutal drug programme. The treatment took an enormous toll physically and emotionally and this was all because she had received contaminated blood products more than 20 years earlier.  

Today Mandy offers support to those newly diagnosed and is living proof Hep C won’t stop you having a full and rich
life with love, success and plenty of worldwide adventures.

The Hepatitis C Trust’s Chief Executive is Charles Gore and he took part in my filming.  Since then there have been great strides in the treatment of this disease. According to the Hep C Trust, it is possible to eliminate Hepatitis C in the UK by 2030. Education is one of the key challenges, around half of those with Hep C don’t realise they have it.
