Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the classic Athens Marathon in 2016, following in the footsteps of Pheidippides (hopefully without the dying-of-exhaustion-part). I have always wanted to complete this original course and the early morning training runs and alcohol abstinence require motivation and there is little better motivation than to run for such a worthwhile charity as this one. I was particularly keen to run for a charity which was small in size yet enormous in its contribution to the vulnerable.
WaveLength is a small charity which has been helping people since it was established in 1939. They provide TVs and radios to isolated and lonely people living in poverty. Many live with disability or chronic illness that make it hard to leave their homes. Many are over 75, and many are coming out of difficult situations like homelessness or domestic violence.
For these people, their TVs and radios are their lifelines, keeping them connected to the outside world and comforting them through long days and nights. The equipment WaveLength provides is brand new and they also provide sets which are accessible for disabled people.
