Story

I’m Andie Luntley

I am a little 8-year-old girl and I love to meet people and play. I’ve got my mummy and daddy and a little brother called Elliot. He’s 7 next month and we’re going to have a cake.

I’ve been given something called Rett Syndrome, which I got when I was born. It’s not very nice because nothing works properly. I want to give it back but I can’t.

Mummy and Daddy take me places in my wheelchair and lift me up so I can do things. Going places isn’t so easy now I’m getting bigger. On holiday we went on a boat trip and it was fab. The wind blew in my face and the sea made me go up and down and side to side. It did make me giggle. Not like Mummy, she didn’t like it at all. Here is a picture of me with Mummy, Daddy and my little brother Elliot as we got on the boat, before mummy turned green. We saw seals, birds and lighthouses.

When mummy and daddy are busy in the house I watch TV but that gets boring. I wish I could talk, and then I could tell them what I want to do. That’s another thing that doesn’t work. My hands don’t work either so I can’t point. If I really stare at something hard enough, sometimes someone brings it to me. But sometimes they don’t notice. I’ve been practicing looking at cards & banging switches since I was 3 but I still need someone to help with that.

I had a try of a magic computer and when I look at it I can work it with my eyes! I popped balloons and made drawings. Mummy says she’ll put a picture of daddy on it so I can splat him with custard pies! She said she’d put a picture of my drink bottle as well so I can say when I’m thirsty and of our toilet so I can say when I want to go. I can even have my favourite videos and I can choose Peppa Pig or The Wiggles or Tinkerbell, whatever I want to watch.

The computer has gone now but I was only just getting the hang of it. A nice lady came and said I did really well. Custard pies for her too! If I can get one so I can have it all of the time I can practice much more and learn it. I can take it with me wherever I go so I won’t have to wait for people to help either.

I need someone to look after me and help me all of the time. A magic eye computer will help me do things myself. Can you help me to get one?

Lots of Love from Andie   xxx
