Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In late July I will be participating in the ultra-trail marathon the Lakeland 100 (that’s miles not km, and it’s actually 105 miles but who’s counting…). This is going to be a real challenge – it is not just the distance but also the approx. 7,000m of ascent and the same of descent, the rugged terrain, tricky navigation and the fatigue that persevering continuously through two nights entails (a 6pm start on Friday 29th, you have until 10am on Sunday 31st to complete – so it is also pitch black quite a bit of the time!). Despite quite demanding qualifying standards to enter, less than 50% of those who stand on the start line actually finish.
By completing this event I am looking to raise money for the Brain Tumour Research Campaign in memory of a dear friend and former colleague Simon Whittock who lost his battle against this disease a few weeks ago. He and I actually ran together late last year as I started to get ready for this challenge. It somehow seems appropriate that in crossing the finish line the amount that I raise will result in at least something good arising from such a sad event.
