The Ark T Centre in Cowley is a charity very close to my heart offering so many people a great place to be safe, creative, and have fun too. There’s lots that goes on there that is a bit hidden but makes a great difference to lots of people every week, maybe to people who don’t get out much, who appreciate a hot meal, a chance to chat and be listened to and find friendly faces.   

Most personally for me, I am inspired by the youth music project which gives opportunities to young people to write, perform and record their own music and just grow through the whole experience. Young people often feel they are not heard or listened to and need the support of trained music practitioners to unlock their voices.  When I hear tracks with such personal meaning, passion and expression I am so glad that individual has had chance and found courage to be creative and tell their story and in the process grow their self esteem and resilience to face the difficulties in their lives. Sadly, Cowley has a far higher than average level of domestic abuse and sexual exploitation meaning many young people are living with painful and difficult situations and don't have a safe base to call home - how hard must that be?

Ark T make every penny go such a long way and as they prepare to celebrate their 20th birthday in 2017, I want to help them keep inspiring with creativity, supporting people on the margins and turning lives  for a long time yet. Oxford needs theArk T Centre.
