Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 21st March 2011 I had a minor shunt in my brand new car....... to cut a long story short I broke both ankles pretty badly, spent almost 4 weeks in hospital, almost lost my left leg and it was only due to the fantastic work of attending Emergency services that I am able to (hopefully) complete this challenge.
I left hospital in a wheelchair and had a rather fetching external fixator in my left leg and my right leg in a cast. The ex-fit remained for more than 3 months. Over the summer, I gradually managed to work my way from the wheelchair, to a zimmer frame and then to crutches and finally I was able to start walking again in August...... Learning to walk again is an experience I never thought I'd have to go through in adult life and I am still in the process of recovery now, I have one more operation left to go and am still having regular physio sessions. It has been an interesting experience to say the least.
To mark the anniversary of the accident, on 21st March 2012, I am going to attempt to run to work from my home in Guildford to McLaren Technology Centre (north of Woking) a distance of 13km. This is a challenge that, if you had asked me at Christmas, I would have said I would never be able to complete.
The support of friends and family during this whole experience and in particular when I was in hospital was just incredible I would just like to ask people for one more thing.....
Please please help me raise money for Ambulance Service who I undoubtedly owe my restored mobility to! Your donation will help these incredible men and women help more people like me.
Thanks
Andrew.
