Story

Thank you for visiting our JustGiving Wedding Page!  If you would like to give a gift to mark the occassion of our wedding, this is the place to do so.

We have been in Africa a number of times and shared a great week travelling around Zimbabwe, discovering - despite its challenges - a beautiful country with warm, friendly, hard-working people who just want to get on and build a better life for themselves. We decided that the best wedding celebration for us is to give a few really bright kids some of the education opportunities that we have benefited from - to finish their A levels / Abitur and to go on to University.

Makomborero is a young charity run by two Zimbabweans that helps talented local students from very poor areas who would otherwise be forced to give up their studies due to financial hardship, to complete their A level education to fulfil their potential.

Money donated here will specifically support the following two schemes:

- support 8 pupils each year that are selected to attend private schools in Harare.  Three private schools (St George's, Hellenic & Gateway) provide free two-year day scholarships.  Makomborero selects the pupils (from over 400 applications this year) and supports them by providing free boarding accommodation and food, a house mistress (Mrs Banga) to look after them, uniforms, books, travel to school and social development.

-  pay the school fees (up to $450) for a number of really deserving pupils to complete their A levels in their existing government school

The scheme has been massively successful in its three years to date - with the St Georges/Hellenic/Gateway pupils winning many of the exam prizes available at the school.  The first generation to finish their A levels got 24A*, 21A and 7B in the Cambridge Board A level exams and amongst them received scholarships to study in the US, Europe and South Africa

We can't wait to see you at Easter
