The Cause
As I am sure you all know the money we raise from the Prudential Ride London makes a massive difference and we would not be able to continue our work without the support from people like yourselves. As well as our continual work lobbying on all countryside issues we also have our charitable arm ‘The Countryside Alliance Foundation’. The Countryside Alliance Foundation is a charity which aims to help adults and children alike make the most of the incredible remedial and educational benefits of being involved in the natural environment. By introducing people to the delights of rural Britain we hope to inspire them to become passionate about the countryside, and help to protect and preserve it. The Countryside Alliance Foundation has many initiatives, primarily Casting for Recovery and Fishing 4 Schools.

Casting for Recovery (CfR) is a unique and wonderful programme which provides an opportunity for women whose lives have been profoundly affected by breast cancer to gather on a retreat in a natural setting to learn the sport of fly fishing. The act of casting for a fish is extremely similar to the exercises that physiotherapists recommend for ladies post mastectomy. The retreats offer an opportunity to meet new friends, exchange information, and most of all, have fun. The retreats are delivered by trained facilitators including a psycho-social therapist and a health care professional (e.g. physiotherapist, nurse) as well as qualified fly fishing instructors and guides. The retreats are totally oversubscribed and therefore we are desperate to raise the funds to allow us to hold more. I have attached a flyer should you want any more details.

Fishing 4 Schools is an initiative set up by world famous angler Charles Jardine which reaches out to less privileged young people giving them the opportunity to learn life and academic skills through fishing. It is aimed at students in secondary education, especially those with learning or physical disabilities and explores core curricular subjects such as maths and science through the medium of angling. The results are exceptional and so far we have engaged over 2,500 students in 70+ schools.

About the charity

Many children and young people know little about the countryside and rural way of life. Its programme of educational initiatives will introduce them, and their teachers, to the beauty, importance and diversity of our rural heritage, inspiring them to become passionate about its future and protect it for future generations.
