Story
January the 13th, 2 years ago Victoria, a beautiful, fun loving friend lost her short life to a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Life can be so cruel......diagnosed and gone within 3 months, not even 29 years of age and only starting her married life.
I have wanted to honour her, raise awareness and of course money for her charity..........Victoria Promise which was set up by family about 2 years ago. It's taken me that long to get myself in gear but I made a promise back then and intend on keeping it.
I would like to raise £2k as this is the full cost of a young woman's treatment that VP offer. This covers small things to make their life more comfortable, things like a breathable wig, therapy & beautician treatments and counselling to name a few.
To earn this I am going to take on 3 challenges this year as this is a nod to the sad fact that Vicky lost her fight to cancer within 3 months. I have been thinking of a Swim , Bike and Run, the 3 disciplines so my first challenge will be.......
The Great North 5k swim on the 10th of June which needs to be completed within 2 hours. The good point is I can swim but I am pretty lazy swimmer and only swam once or twice last year so I absolutely need to train to achieve this distance, in open water, in a wetsuit and with many eager participants! Yikes!
My 2nd challenge is a the New Forest Rattler 47 mile bike ride on the 14th of August in a stunning part of the country. I am hoping this will inspire me to keep on going especially as to date I have only cycle 6 miles on a road bike & about 13 miles on a mountain bike! Double yikes!
So for the 3rd challenge I am taking part in the Basingstoke half marathon on the 2nd of October. The VP charity and support team will be part of this event and cheering on their supporters so have convinced me to make this my last event. It will be a tough course but equally rewarding event to be part of with the support from my charity that I am raising money for.
Finally I just wanted to say that I am sure that majority of you have been either impacted personally or know of someone who has lost their battle to cancer or trying beat it or have miraculously pulled through. Either way It's a real personal struggle for all involved. Every person, every family and all friends need support and this is what VP does. It offers a different level of support that's personal to the individual.
Thank you for reading my story, supporting my challenges and helping me in reaching this goal. It's really appreciated and every donation will make me strive harder even when I don't want to.( I know there will be a many of those moments)
Thank you
Anita
