We help young refugees and asylum seekers to realise their rights and potential

Story

Am hosting a nepali-inspired open house and party to celebrate my moving back to Denmark and finishing my Bachelor's Degree! Whilst in the UK i've done a lot of work with Refugee Youth Project, an amazing charity that does important work young Refugees and Asylum Seekers in London, Egypt, Lebanon and Nepal.

The Bhutanese refugees arrived in Nepal in the early 1990s. Refugee Youth Project has been supporting young Bhutanese refugees since 2007. We have secured most of the funds we need to enable us to keep supporting Bhutanese refugee children in 2014, but we still need to raise some more money to offer everything we want to give them.

Our project supports children who have difficulties in meeting their basic needs, finding time to focus on studies, and receiving adequate support from adults. Since 2009, Refugee Youth Project has been working with the Bhutanese Refugee Children Forum to:

·         identify and visit the huts of vulnerable children

·         Work with other organisations to ensure these children receive support

·         provide material assistance to some children through a hardship fund

·         run weekly social support activities for vulnerable children

·         provide life skills and peer support training

The refugee children we support think this is important because:

“If everyone had this training, everything in the camp would be changed.”

“Vulnerable children learn more from this training and are able to share their experiences with each other.”

“The training changed my life, the way I think, and the way I communicate with others. It helped me to develop my confidence and I learned to share my feelings. My friend said I have become less aggressive and am better at managing my anger after attending this training.”
