Story
I know that 10k is only a short distance, but it’s my attempt to challenge myself for a good cause and train for a half marathon next year (small steps!). It’s also a brilliant opportunity for me to raise money for a charity whose work I admire everyday in my role with the City of York’s Safeguarding Children Board. IDAS (Independent Domestic Abuse Services) is a charity based in North Yorkshire that supports all victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence. Their dedicated workers provide outreach support, refuge accommodation and run a rape support helpline. Sadly, 90% of children who live in households where domestic abuse is happening are aware of what’s going on. IDAS also provides vital support to these children and young people through numerous services and initiatives that really make a difference to those growing up in abusive households. Fundraising is so important to IDAS because it helps pay for vital, life saving services that the government doesn’t fund. Any amount, no matter how small, is important to IDAS. Just £5 can help pay for an emergency pack for a family entering the refuge.
Thank you for your support!
