Chirurgia gratuita, all'avanguardia e per tutt*. Non sono molti i paesi nel mondo che la offrono. Io ho la fortuna di vivere in uno di questi paesi. Continuo a pensarci da quando ho scoperto che dovrò sottopormi ad un'operazione al cuore.

L'ospedale di EMERGENCY in Sudan è l'unico ospedale in Africa ad offrire chirurgia cardiaca gratuita ad alto livello. Ma la sua lista d'attesa è lunga. E mentre io in pochi mesi ricevo diagnosi e trattamento, sono migliaia i pazienti -tra cui moltissimi bambini- che aspettano da anni, aspetteranno per anni, e probabilmente moriranno prima di varcare le porte dell'ospedale. Io dico che non è giusto. 

L'ospedale di EMERGENCY spende circa 3.000 euro per un' operazione alla valvola mitralica, la mia stessa operazione! Che dite, mi aiutate a dare la possibilità ad una persona di avere l'operazione che cambierà la sua vita per sempre?

EMERGENCY Salam Center for Cardiac Surgery in Sudan offers advanced, free of charge surgery. But its waiting list is huge. While my diagnosis and treatment will last a few months, so many patients -and among them many children- have been and will be waiting for years before being admitted for surgery, and probably will die waiting.
