Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Annie East and Bryony Read from Kids Camera Action! in Poole, Dorset, will soon take their young persons' filmmaking workshop into one of poorest areas on earth – the Namatala slum district in Uganda.
Aim: To provide, free, bespoke media training to children and adults via the CHILD OF HOPE SCHOOL charity, using fun techniques derived and adapted from their Kids Camera Action workshops. Child of Hope uses video to promote its vital work and engages its pupils in its video productions, so it has the ability to sustain and develop the children in video techniques after the workshop.
Outcome: Give a 21 century voice to a group of Ugandan children and adults in the Namatala slum. Through becoming media-literate, slum children, teachers and parents will have the opportunity to have their voice heard beyond the confines of their homes – now and ongoing. Whether that is helping them raise funds for their school, promoting new businesses for mums, or telling fictional stories on film that provide a dialogue about important issues within their community... film and media literacy will inspire confidence and creativity to those families living in abject poverty.
The challenge
To get out there we need to raise £4,700, for which we commence fundraising in October with a private screening of a classic children's film at the Rex Cinema, Wareham.
