Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The Association of Santa Chiara is a Salesian congregation in Palermo, Sicily. The Salesians are a religious institute, which was founded with the aim of helping young and poor children. This Association upholds that purpose with a day centre for sports, socio-cultural, and social activities, as well as welfare, education and training, especially for young people, with particular attention to refugees, immigrants and children at risk.

During April 2015, volunteers from the UK, Italy, Taiwan and Malta are going to build a sport and multi-media room for underprivileged children in Palermo. This project will help them get off the streets and into a safe and positive environment where they can have fun and develop skills with other children in the same position.

The fundraising effort includes a 70s-themed disco extravaganza and the office team at 21st Century Building Services are doing a sponsored "Virtual Trip" from Bristol to Palermo. We've been cycling, walking, running, rowing and swimming, working towards each completing the 1841 mile journey!!

UPDATE:

THANK YOU!

For the many kind donations received from family, friends, suppliers and colleagues.

To my nephews Johann Mifsud and Stephan Borg for the website they prepared (www.amicidichiarapalermo.com)

To Annetta Zammit for the 70’s Charity Disco, raising funds to make this possible.

For the time Gregorio has spent being the middle man, negotiator, translator – without him this would never got off the ground.

To Sean Viera for introducing us to Gregorio.

To Andy Phillips for the electrical design and the time he spent with University of Bristol Colleagues arranging the donation of the projection equipment.

To Mark Cinicola for the Lighting Design.

To Michael Bezzina for the t-shirt artwork and the Prototype Wall Art.

To Andy Phillips and Mark Britton for the many hours planning, discussing and making lists with me.

It has been a long journey to get the project to where it is now, it’s been a great collective effort from many generous people, let's finish the job and hope many people and especially children will benefit from this facility.

It helps needy young people predominantly. Internationally, this is done through education, provision of shelter and accommodation, youth centres, parishes, aid work and missionary outreach. In Britain, work is done through provision of schools, youth chaplaincies, a residential youth retreat centre, parishes, youth centres and volunteering opportunities for young adults.
