Story
Give the joy of reading to a child …
We are raising money to put books on the library shelves and
in the hands of Ark Elvin Academy students. As you can see from the photo - we need more books to fill our library.
Our school, in Wembley, is in one of the most economically-deprived and diverse areas of London - 3 in 4 students at Ark Elvin speak English as an additional language, and nearly 50 different languages are spoken in school. Many students arrive from overseas having not attended primary school.
The school was previously struggling but as of summer 2014, it is part of the high performing Ark network. Huge progress has been made in a short time. With a brilliant new headteacher, dedicated and well-trained staff, the students are well behaved and eager to learn.
This term, the school launched a tailored, school-wide literacy initiative – every student starts the day with reading for 30 minutes. But we need more books to put in the hands of these eager readers. We have a dynamic librarian and a great space for students to read and study.
As the Governing Body, we have set ourselves a challenge: We want to raise £5,000 so that the students at Ark Elvin can start the next term with lots of new books to challenge their minds and stretch their imaginations. We’ve had hundreds of books donated by friends, but we need funds to buy the books which are tailored to our students’ needs.
Every single penny of your donation will go directly to buying books, nothing else:
For £10, you can buy 2 books
For £25, you can buy 5 books
For £50, you can buy 10 books
For £100, you can buy 25 books
For £250, you can buy 75 books
