Story
27 1/2 hours to Armageddon!!!
All january without any alcohol?? For my son, anything!!
My son Luca was born on 6th March 2009. He was 9 weeks premature and weighed 3lb 3oz. We knew we had a challenge in front of us, but nothing compared to what we were told on Easter Sunday 2009. He had a massive heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallots. In simple terms, he had four major problems with his heart and faced surgery as soon as he was healthy and big enough to undergo it.
This wouldn't happen until late October.
The initial surgery was a success, but because of his size, further surgery would be required to repair his heart.
He was in intensive care at Leeds General Infirmary for a number of days. When it was deemed the right time to fetch him round and take him off the ventilator, he wasn't strong enough and had to be put back onto it.
Eventually, he came off the ventilator, but developed a number of difficulties including blood clots and fungal infections.
Without going into details, he eventually succumbed to a clot which went into his lung and on the 12th of December, he passed away peacefully while my wife and I held him.
Not a day goes by that I don't think of him and the nine months we spent with him.
If everybody had the fight and determination he showed in those few months, the world would be a far better place.

Daddy
