We support people with dementia in Scotland to make sure nobody faces dementia alone

Story

My Global Odyssey is a world first for a woman. To date no woman has run 7 x 50km (30 miles) ultra marathons on 7 continents in 7 days. It is my aim to do this in 2017.

I will start in the Antarctic and finish in Australia i via South America, North America, Europe, Africa & Asia.

Having already raised over £20k for Alzheimer Scotland I will continue to fundraise for the charity to support people who suffer from dementia and those who care for them. Dementia has affected my family and this cause is close to my heart.

To help me prepare I have set some milestones on the way. The first is running an extreme marathon double: The Namib Sand Marathon in Namibia and the Genghis Khan Ice Marathon in Mongolia; desert sand dunes and +40 degrees to a frozen river and -40 within a few days. There will be additional milestone races announced shortly.

It was back in 2013 that I started fundraising for Alzheimer Scotland by participating in  both the Antarctic Ice Marathon and the Antarctic 100km Ultra Marathon when I became the first Scot to complete the double distance. That raised the first £7.5k for Alzheimer Scotland.

In 2014 I went on to complete the Volcano Marathon at an altitude of 14,500 feet in the Atacama desert in Chile. I contended with low oxygen levels, temperatures of up to 30 degrees, tough mountain terrain and altitude sickness managing to finish 3rd overall woman. My fundraising total rose to £14k

In 2015 I completed the North Pole Marathon in temperatures that dropped to -41 finishing 4th lady and getting a bit of frostbite on the way. I hit my first fundraising target of £20k.

I am an ordinary person: a mum and wife and I work full-time. Running is my passion and I have always loved a challenge. I am also passionate about charity and so use my running to fundraise.

All the money that I raise will stay in Scotland, and specifically, is used on projects in Glasgow and the surrounding area.

All donations go direct to Alzheimer Scotland and my challenge trips are self-funded or independently sponsored.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please consider digging deep and making a donation because every penny counts.
