Story
Our story:
Jo W's story: Cancer hit us badly when my husband's uncle suffered with throat cancer for three years. The cancer was spotted during a routine dental check, and rapidly spread. Unfortunately he was one of the unlucky ones and passed away. It was heartbreaking and I am sure partly through grieving so much, my mother-in-law, about 10 months later was diagnosed with Leukaemia. Through early diagnosis, chemotherapy and ongoing drugs, she has now been in remission for 8 years, which we are so thankful for. I would like to raise funds for George's Trust, for its dedication in research, support and treatment of cancer for teenagers and young adults.
Helen's story: My lovely mum died from pancreatic cancer and cancer of the liver in 2003. She was diagnosed very late having been unwell for a few months. She died very shortly after receiving the diagnosis, before the chance of receiving any treatment. We miss her every single day. Greater awareness is needed of these hidden cancers where the symptoms are easy to confuse with other things and early diagnosis is crucial for accessing the right treatment. I hope our efforts will help raise awareness so that more people get the diagnosis, treatment and support they need as early as possible.
Rachel's story: My mum was only 51 when she died of lung cancer. She never met my husband or 4 of her grandchildren. They will never see her hilarious dancing, hear her quote Shakespeare, giggle with her madly after too much wine, or have one of her fabulous hugs. This makes me too sad and furious to express. I would like us to learn how to find, treat and prevent cancer.
Jen's story: I didn't really know cancer before my beloved Anne, who looked after me like a mother when I lived in Norway in my teens, passed away from peritoneal cancer in 2011. It all happened so quickly, to one of the warmest, sunniest persons I have ever met. She blogged about her experience at http://ginestier.blogspot.co.uk/. I'm running in memory of her smile, one of the brightest, to raise awareness for this and other rare cancers, in the hope to improve treatment and support for others like her.
Jo H's story: I don't run.... I CANT run.... BUT... on 2nd July 2016 I will put on my (new) running shoes for the first time and run (or maybe walk, pant, stumble) around a muddy, obstacle ridden common for one very good reason - to help fight cancer.
