Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

September in the US is Childhood Cancer Awareness month. Incidence of invasive pediatric cancers is up 29% in the past 20 years as reported by Director of National Institute of Health 2010. Each year around 13,500 children are diagnosed with cancer in the US, that’s more than a classroom of children a day. 35,000 children are currently in treatment for cancer. We at British Friends of Bar-Ilan University are raising money in order to help find treatment and cure.

Bar-Ilan University (http://www.biu.ac.il) is the fastest-growing institution of higher education in Israel and celebrating six decades of excellence in both education and research.

A registered UK Charity (314139), the British Friends of Bar-Ilan University (http://www.bfbiu.org) is the face of the University in the UK. As the official representative of Bar-Ilan, the BFBIU is aimed at promoting the activities and growth of the University.

Cancer is a major area of research at Bar-Ilan's School of Medicine, a leading pioneer of research among them Childhood Cancer. At Bar-Ilan there are three young cancer researchers renown as one of the best in the world today:

Dr. Achia Urbach- Investigating how tumors form in children and how it can be prevented. Joined the University from Harvard Medical School.

Professor Izhak Haviv- Developing ways to tailor cancer treatment to individual patients (children). Joined from Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Australia and won support from US Department of Defense.

Your kind donation will help the above researchers to find treatment and/or cure and will make a difference.
