We were shocked when our son, Balraj (19 years old) was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, Rhabdomyosarcoma in April 2013.
It is the most common type of soft tissue sarcoma to occur in children and teenagers and can be very difficult to treat. He was admitted to the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton where he was given chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Unfortunately he developed a secondary cancer in January and despite a brave fight he sadly passed away on 9th March 2014.
One of our son’s wishes was that further research should be done as soon as possible to increase the survival rates for patients with Rhabdomyosarcoma.
The Paediatric Drug Development Unit at The Royal Marsden urgently need funds to carry out research to provide more targeted and efficient treatments particularly for childhood cancers. The cost of this research project, over 3 years, is approx. £300,000. Cancer Research UK has pledged 50% of this cost, our aim is to raise as much as we can over the next year to help fund the other £150,000.
