Story
Dad was always passionate about nature, the environment, conservation and protecting animals, birds, insects, and plants. He has gone through many phases in his lifelong love of wildlife.
As kids we had containers of caterpillars in the living room, which would lovingly have to be transferred to new food (leaves) every few days using a micro-tiny artist's paintbrush so as not to damage them. Death's Head Hawk moths would feed on cotton wool balls dipped in 'nectar' made from mixing honey and water, their proboscis (tube like tongue) had to be gently nudged with a cocktail stick before they would unroll it, and suck up the nectar, giving funny little bat like squeaks.
He's been mad on grasses, rare thistles...the list goes on.
There are foxes living in his back garden. They have little cubs under the bushes. Dad loved those foxes. They ate better than we did! No kidding. They would have joints of meat and trays of chicken regularly. The vixen would wait by the front or back door for dinner-time.
When dad was ill in the hospital, he was known as the 'Fox Man' and his cuddly fox (not the real one) would go with him on the trolley to x-rays and scans.
If anyone would like to donate to the Fox Project, in memory of my dad, I know he'd be chuffed to bits.
Thank you.
Helen and Soph, Merv's cubs, Aili his grandcub and Lou, his beloved Fox Lady
