Event: Thames Path Challenge 2016, on 10 September 2017
In memory of Colin Lee
We provide specialist end of life care to patients in our local community

Story

Last October several of us had a 'mad' idea to do a Walking Challenge in 2016. Between us we then enlisted some other like minded friends and 'The Walkie Talkies' were formed.

I am hoping to complete the 100k Thames Path Challenge on September 10th/11th in less than 24 hours and in doing so raise funds for St Luke's Hospice in Plymouth, who provide amazing care and support and where my father 21 years ago spent his last few days.

Since October, we have been completing monthly challenge walks increasing our distance each time and doing speed walks, as a group and on our own, to improve both our fitness and endurance in preparation for the event.

My Facebook friends will have seen some of our recent challenge walks which have included an all night 40k walk along the Thames and most recently 46k over the Surrey Hills. Thank goodness the Thames path is flat!

When we started I think we all thought this should be fine....'  after all how hard can walking be ?' I think we have already experienced how hard this endurance event will be!

David, Ben and James, my mother, friends and all my fellow walkers have been hugely supportive and I could not contemplate attempting this without their support.
