IRONMAN 70.3 VICHY, 27 August 2017
We support people with haemochromatosis to improve lives and survival rates

Story

Bernie and Will will be competing in a Half Ironman in August 2016 (our first). Its a triathlon of:

  • 1.2 mile (1.9km) open water swim
  • 56 mile (90km) cycle
  • 13.1 mile (21.1km) run

Known as the Ironman 70.3, because of the total number of miles to cover!

This is the furthest we have ever challenged ourselves. It's a mammoth event, with weeks of training to look forward to. Getting us through this will be ever better if we can raise some money for The Haemochromatosis Society.

This is a fantastic cause, as Haemochromatosis has affected us personally. Haemochromatosis is a common genetic condition whereby the body absorbs too much iron, which it deposits in organs such as the liver, heart and pancreas. It is a condition that is often missed as a diagnosis, and is vital to be identified early to prevent the long-term effects of iron-overload.

Please sponsor us! Any amount will be greatly received, and we hope to make a big difference for patients in the UK who have this condition.

Many, many thanks

 Bernie & Will xx

About the charity

Genetic haemochromatosis (GH) affects up to 1 in 200 in the UK. With GH, the body absorbs more iron than it needs; this builds up in the organs to toxic levels and can cause irreparable damage. Early diagnosis saves lives. The society supports those affected, promotes awareness and funds research.
