Story
I am honoured to have
been asked to write this for my friend who will soon add Marathon Runner to her
many "titles". When one thinks of a
Marathon you have to admire anyone wanting to challenge themselves to complete
one. Determination, spirit and commitmnet to the training and running on the
day. But also align that to a great cause and you have a very powerful unstopable
force. So I have total admiration that my friend and running buddy Beryl has entered the York Marathon on October 9th 2016. Well Beryl has all these
attributes and more but Beryl is an inspiration as she has overcome . Did Beryl do sport and
running at school- I always wanted to take part in sports but I was never
allowed due to my asthma, I was always told "beryl cannot run beryl cannot
play sports beryl has two left feet etc etc. now looking back at the comments
now wonder I lacked confidence and why I was and still am so hard on myself. So when did Beryl start
to run? 11 June 2011 on Graham's 50th birthday, went for a mile run and it felt
like I had just run 30. But I was so excited as for the first time in my life I
felt like I had achieved something in my life. Beryl has recently
completed the Edinburgh Half-Before Edinburgh this year she had done several
5k, 10k and Half marathons and the longest is Northumberland Coastal which is
14 miles. In Beryl's own words My
best ever has to be Edinburgh its a fast course and not crammed with thousand
of runners like Great North Run. The run along the sea front is lovely and the
smell of the sea air just takes me back to were I was brought up. The charity Beryl has chosen to run for is Asperger syndrome it's a small
charity, we are looking at getting a help line put in to help families cope
with a family member that has Asperger .I hope you will donate to make a
difference to this wonderful cause and also inspire Beryl . Beryl will post regular updates of her training and also a report of the day itself
