Hello, my name is Bethany Scott. I have been selected to go to Fiji with Lattitude for 5 months starting in February 2017. During this time I will be involved in a Community Projects Placement - Teaching in a Fijian school, and enriching the lives of many under-privileged children in this developing country.

Lattitude Global Volunteering is a youth development charity that specialises in overseas volunteering placements. Since 1972, Lattitude Global Volunteering has sent over 40,000 young people to volunteer in over 17 countries around the world. Lattitude Global Volunteering helps young people from developed and developing countries to volunteer, making sure their placements deliver sustainable value for the children, communities and institutions that volunteers work in. They match every volunteer to a placement that really needs their skills and where they can have the most benefit as part of a larger, on-going programme. This means I will have the opportunity to increase my understanding and experience of the world and develop important skills such as global and cultural awareness, team-working, leadership,communication and decision-making. 

As part of my commitment to the programme I am aiming to raise £3500 to cover the fee to Lattitude, my flight, vaccinations and insurance.

I am undertaking a variety of fundraising activities in order to reach this goal, such as Raffles, Car Boot Sales, Cake Sales, Sponsored events. I would be extremely grateful of your support.

I will be keeping this updated with details of my fundraising events, more detail on my specific placement once it has been assigned to me and my experiences whilst I am on my placement in Fiji.

I am wanting to Volunteer because, quite simply, I am not 100% sure what career path I would like to study at University yet.Volunteering will hopefully give me insight, and time for self-reflection to help me to decide my future aspirations. Also, I love travelling and experiencing different cultures; Fiji will give me the opportunity to experience both of these things. Whilst enabling me to take some time out after the stress of A-Levels, volunteering with Lattitude will also give me a Gap Year that is meaningful and worthwhile.
