My Inspiration
Since childhood, I had been very much interested in listening to and collecting all types of Bhajans. Years went by and my responsibilities towards my family and children increased and took over most of my time. So when sickness took over my life and debilitated me from doing anything at all that was enjoyable, I reverted to listening to Bhajans again. That activity became medicine for my soul and the end result is this book - Bhajanamrutam
My children taught me how to use the computer and I started typing Gujarati Bhajans into English text. This collection was rapidly growing and certainly helping me get out of the rut of not being able to do anything useful. Just then, we lost two very dear members of our family, my mother-in-law and father-in-law. The children of our family spent days after the loss singing Bhajans for their grandparents that I had written in English as most of them could not read Gujarati.
My inspiration for the compilation of this book came from the fact that during my sickness period, I started suffering from Coeliac disease. Coeliac, also known as Gluten Intolerance, is quite an unusual disease that our Asian culture and people are unfamiliar with. Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disease. Gluten, which is found in wheat, barley, oats, rye, triggers an immune reaction in people with this disease. This means that eating gluten damages the lining of the small intestine and therefore causing numerous adverse reactions in the body. During this trying time, when I was virtually unable to eat any of our normal food, Coeliac UK (a charity working for people with Coeliac) supported me and helped me cope with this disease. For the support that they provided me during my time of need, I wanted to give something back to them so more people like me can be supported the way I was. Therefore any funds raised from this book will be given to such a supportive and deserving charity.
By the grace of God and the support of my family and friends, I have been able to compile this book. I sincerely Thank You All.
